In case people are interested... ============================================================================ ********************************************************************** *** Contraptions *** *** PROGRESS REPORT TWO *** *** The British Roleplaying Convention 1996 *** *** Northampton Moat House - 24rd and 25th of August 1996 *** ********************************************************************** Welcome Welcome to the second progress report for Contraptions. For those of you who missed PR1, this will tell you about the convention; for thse who already know about us, this is to let you know that we are still around! In case you didnt know, Contraptions is the UK Role-playing and Gaming Convention of 1996 and will be held the weekend of 24rd and 25th of August. We are aiming to run a convention in the mould of the successful Contraption, held in 1992. It will be a broad-based convention for gamers of all persuasions and vices - including table-top, live-action, board games and wargaming - and all ranges of experience, from old-hands to novices. We0feel sure that you will find so}ething to appeal to you. The Hotel We decided to hold the convention in a hotel this time, as this will provide better facilities for you. We will be holding the convention in the Northampton Post House. Thys is in Northampton (in case you werent sure) which is a good, central location and the Post House is conveniently located in the city. It also has excellent facilities, with a large hall for gaming and plenty of space for the programme i|ems. It will also have a 24 hour bar. Think about; may be you will want a Coke to help stay awake through that last level of the dungeon, or perhaps you will feel the need for a stiff drink as Cthulhu looms at you in the early hours of the morning. Moreover, the bar is right next to all the other convention space. The hotel has an ideal layout, and we know youll enjoy it. Guest of Honour Steve Jackson proved a very popular Guest of Honour at Contraption, and we are delighted to have him back in 1996. Apart from designing many popular games, Steve is a regular con-goer and will be taking part in all areas of the convention. The Uncle Al Benefit Due to its success in 92, we will be resurrecting the Uncle Albert Benefit Fund. This will be used to help defray the non-to-inexpensive costs of Steve Jacksons air fares from (and to) the States. We will almost certainly be holding an auction at the convention, where you can pick up an elusive module or a cheap floor plan. All support for the fund, such as material for the auction or even some spare cash, will be gratefully received. The Programme Even at this early stage we are working on plans for the programme. There will be a mix of panels, discussions, talks and other items whych will explore various aspects of gaming. We may even have one or two light-hearted items, to help you get over losing your best fighter to that whimpy orc. However, we would like you to take part in all this. If you have a burning desire to give a talk, or an idea for a panel discussion please let us know. We0would also like to hear froo you if you are willing to appear on a programme item. There is also the ample space for gaming. Here you will be able tfind and take part in all sorts of games. You will be able to run a game of your own as well: start thinking now about digging out that viciously evil adventure you have been waiting to run for a new group of unsuspecting saps, sorry players. Internet Access No, you wont be able to attend the Cn over the Internet, but you will be able to find out about us on the Information Superhighway. We are setting up a World Wide Web home page where you will be able to keep updated with the latest news from the committee. You will also be able to contact us via e-mail if you have any ideas for programme items, etc. (See below) T-shirts We will be offering convention T-shirts real soon now. Featuring a wickedly funny cartoon, you will be able to amuse your friends, show your support for Contraptions and be a fashion leader at the same time. All this for a very reasonable tenner. Youll never forgive yourself is you miss this one, and we wont be reminding you again. ********************************************************************** ********************************************************************** Membership Form =============== Name: ________________________________________________________________ Badge Name: __________________________________________________________ Address: _____________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Email Address: _______________________________________________________ If you would like to volunteer to help in the running of Contraptions, to appear on a panel or run a demo game or event, please indicatebelow: Attending Membership: Pre-Easter 199>: 25.00 GBP [ ] Post-Easter 1996: 28.00 GBP [ ] On the Door: 30.00 GBP There are group discounts, please contact us for further information.
